Cork City Heritage Open Day Events 2016

We have a jam-packed heritage programme this year.  All Heritage Open Day Events are free.

Some events have limited spaces and need to be pre-booked in advance.  Details of events, which require pre-booking by the venue organisers are marked with a ticket symbol  and details of who to contact are provided alongside.

Medieval Day

Fun family event to celebrate Cork City's Medieval past (as part of Irish Walled Towns Day) with historical re-enactments and displays of weaponry, pottery and household items as well as medieval games. Face painting, balloon making and some fun surprises for all the family. Be an archaeologist for a day and visit the archaeology roadshow, which includes a dig-in-a-box and a dig-a-viking-warrior. Learn all about Cork's medieval and 17th century military history.

Reimagine Cork Heritage Hunt for Adults

Keep your eyes peeled for colourful murals that celebrate the 3 H's of Cork - history, heroes and humour

Cork Public Museum

In Their Own Words - Cork Stories Easter 1916

The exhibition centers on the testimonies and personal recollection of Cork men and women involved in the Rising including Michael Collins, Diarmaid Lynch and J.J.Walsh.

Try your hand at identifing the bones of prehistoric animals and the remains of ancient crops in a "hands on" session.

Have a go at grinding grain in a pre-historic mill.  Enjoy butter churning demonstrations and the opportunity to taste the results with some prehistoric style bread.

Organised by The Heritage Council in collaboration with the Cork Public Museum and Cork Butter Museum.
