Now known as ‘Frank O’Connor House’ in honour of the writer who was born here in 1903, No. 84 Douglas Street now houses the Munster Literature Centre.

No. 84 is a rare example of a modest urban vernacular house, dating from the early 18th century. It is unusual because it retains to a remarkable degree the internal features and character of that time – the corner fireplaces, the stairs, doors, ceilings and wonderful wide floorboards on the first floor.

The house was acquired by Cork City Council in 2003 and, under the direction of the architect Paul Hudson and the conservation engineer Chris Southgate, it was refurbished in time for the centenary of the birth of Frank O’Connor in September 2003.
The Munster Literature Centre will screen short documentaries about Cork writers and refreshments will be served.  All visitors will receive a Southword Publication Book.
